What is Dana's death on Black Christmas?

In the movie trailer for 'Black Christmas", it shows that Dana (Lacey Chabert) died from being pulled into some kind of spinning Christmas light thing.. But on the movie.. It shows that she goes under the house to fix the lights and gets stabbed in the head.. I looked to see if it was like an alternate ending but I didnt find anything..
