First, go to Sparknotes or shmoop.com and look up the book. Those sites will give you chapter summaries and analyses of the parts you don't understand. Shmoop is a bit more student friendly. I can suggest one cartoon: Nicely dressed rich white people are being driven up to church (in a horse carriage) by a poorly dressed black slave. One of them is saying: "I never miss a Sunday." One of Twain's issues was how people could own slaves and say they were Christian.
